is there any non hydroscope trans hydraulic fluid for ford 4400 bad condensation problem . like to be able drain off water

condensation in transmission its a problem with tractors .any body no where the vent on transmission is 1966 4400

Condensation would not cause a chronic moisture problem especially with no vent. No vent means no air exchange. No air exchange means once the moisture is squeezed out of the air in the transmission, there isn't any left to further contaminate the oil.

I don't see any tractor fluid advertised as non-hygroscopic (yes, the term is hygroscopic, not hydroscopic...for whatever reason). Doesn't seem normal to have that much moisture in a transmission unless it's leaking in somewhere.

yea im trying to find that magic combo for this as well--- finding the solve for those darn shifter boots, some aint available depending on the dang model... been experimenting with bags and plastic jugs/totes turned over and placed over the area if theyre sittin outside

Some might be worried that the water builds up and locks up the bearings in the bottom of the tranny? Maybe not.

Replacement CV joint boots make good shifter boots for parts that are NLA.

It is very common for tractors to get moisture in the housings from condensation. It is almost as common for people to insist that it comes from rain and not condensation. Normally the answer is fewer but longer run times. They need to be worked to generate the heat. I pretty much always have some tractors and my forklift in my shop. 3-4 times a year I would walk in and find condensation puddles under them. I had an antique car stored for thirteen years in there. I lifted up the carpet and the mat under it was wet! I now run a dehumidifier whenever it gets up around 70%.

Check your shifter boots rain will travel down the shifter into the transmission.
I checked under the gear shifter and other than working its way down the gear and/or hi-low shifter handle it seems water tight. I'm about to do the first hydraulic fluid R&R on JD 300 industrial loader/scraper. It was bought around 1988 and still fires right up, runs smooth and loses fluid from the scarifier (rippers) hose and ram. The pricing on hydraulic fluids has gotten expensive. Case or Deere recommended is near $125 per 5 gallon jug.

Please share how you "squeeze the moisture out of the air in the transmission". The world has been looking for this information for 100 years!

Plain cheap hydraulic oil tends to allow the water to settle out much better than UTF, and saince your

The water is getting in as vapor. Your 300 needs the UTF fluid because it has the power reverser shuttle. You can go to TSC and check the label on their UTF bucket to make sure that it meets JD specs. All tractors have had vented housings, since they started to seal all the openings. Without vents the pressure build-up would blow the seals out. The vents allow moisture laden air in.

Having just a roof to put them under does wonders for the water in the transmission problem the other is more run time even if it seems like a waste run it longer and load it more so it will warm up in the transmission.

They were all built to live outdoors and shed the rain water unless something like a rubber boot gets deteriorated and leaks. Condensation however is getting sucked in whenever there is dew on the grass in the morning. The problem comes when they don't get worked much anymore. Just starting and letting it run for five minutes is worse than nothing. As you posted they need to not just run but also have enough load put on them at least once every-other month so that the transmission and hydraulic oil get hot and stay hot for at least an hour.

Look up "condensation."

Point being, since it seems I have to explain it to you, that the moisture condenses OUT of the air in the transmission, and mixes with the oil. It is no longer in the air that is in the transmission. Eventually all of the moisture in the air in the transmission that can, or will, condense out, has condensed out and mixed with the oil. There is no more moisture in the air in the transmission. The moisture has FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING been "SQUEEZED" out of the air.

Just grouchy today and need to pick a semantics fight on a months-old thread?

Sorry to annoy you! I just didn't see the connection between condensation and squeezing.

I didn't bring this thread back up. It came up on my daily search of posts to threads that I had previously posted to.
