Non-Sherman transmission

I have a 46 2n with a 2 speed transmission. It shifts on the right side of the tractor opposite side of the pto engage lever. Any ideas as to what this is?

There are both F&T aux trannys and Hupp. I have two F&Ts (one in a tractor). Each are step ups. I have 2 Hupps
(both in tractors). Both are 3 speed units, step up and step down. These all do the same thing that Sherman
units do.

Sounds like a Howard auxiliary transmission. It gives you under drive on all gears without reducing PTO rpm. Not real common and highly desirable.

Good evening, zeked and others: I have a spare unit I am pretty sure is a Hupp. If you need parts or information let me know and I can check it out.

DMartin9N-2N , If it shifts opposite of the PTO shifter it would be a Howard gear reducer. For use like a trencher or rotatory tiller.

if on right side in front of main trans. This is the handle for Hupp dual drive, similar to sherman combo

It is definitely a Howard. Is it worth more in the 46 or as a separate item?

That would all depend on the condition of the gears. Quite often they get damaged. If in good condition I think it would be worth more out of the tractor.

If the transmission is not damaged its worth more than the tractor. As mentioned the gears are often chewed up and it cannot be repaired so its all about the condition of the gears.

As others have said it all has to do with damage gears as it pertains to the value. There are only a couple of ways to tell the condition of the gears. One is to split the tractor. 2 is to pull the top
cover, In your case with a 2n you would need to disconnect the fork connected to the valve on pump before removal. 3 is to pull round side cover and with a bore scope camera view from top side. see my
photo from the top. Other photo shows gear with damage. The bottom and top gear cluster are the same. In my experience the small gear on the top cluster always suffers more damage than the bottom cluster
if the middle gear is damaged than it's likely to have damage on both clusters.
