I just got back from Northern Tools in Buda TX. I was there to buy a battery for one of my tractors and had the old battery for core. The lady at the register wasn't going to accept it because it wasn't an Interstate like the new one. I told her that was a new rule to me and prepared to walk out. She got the manager and all ended well for me. It's a struggle out there. Whine whine whine.

If you are a vet Northern Tools gives a 10% discount. I didn't know this for several years until one of the checkout ladies at Buda told me about it. She also let me combine the vet discount with a coupon that I had. All depends on who happens to check you out it seems.

I'm an Interstate dealer. My Interstate supplier will only take like for like, or bigger, for cores. So, they won't give full credit on a lawnmower/MC battery when buying a car battery. They won't give full credit on a car battery when buying large semi or golf cart batteries. They would be happy to take, say, an 8D core for a MC battery purchase. My supplier has to have a core, car size cores down are $15/each, large semi amd golf cart are $50/each, and 6V MH house batteries are $75/each. They make their core price higher than scrap to make sure they get a core.

That is probably because they get a lot more for scrap than you and I do. My brother hauls a semi load of batteries at a time and gets $25 for a car battery. core charges around here are $18.50
