Not a hydraulics expert

Yes, assuming the tractor in question has live hydraulics, I believe most/all Super MTAs did. My 400 has live remote hydraulics and power steering run off the live pump. There is some kind of allocation valve required in the system. There are other ways to add power steering which use a separate pump.

Yea ya can , BUT ya need a FLOW CONTROL valve . This diverts the needed 3 GPM for power steering and send the rest to the rest . Now here is the THING ya must keep in mind here , IF your main live pump is in great condition that means ya have a total of 12 GPM (gallons Per MIN) . So when ya Steal 3 GPM other things SLOW DOWN and providing your still making the 12 GPM and 1250 Psi at the pump that i doubt due to AGE and ware . On the MTA thru 450 the one thing ya never want to do is try and jack up pump pressure as you risk shearing the Key in the cam shaft or even busting the timing gear that drives it all . Call me a DOOMS Dayer but i am like a under taker i profit from other people's misfortion . as around here believe it or not we still have a BUNCH of OLD Farmalls still working for a living . And i have repaired replaced more then my fair share of cam shafts timing gears and sherd cam keys. Even on my SUPER MTA that one took a new cam lifters and not just one gear but two . Yep the MTA in her day was state of the art and a power house to be reckoned with . But like me pretty well wore out since i was 8 when that tractor was new and remember the weekend one was on Demo at my uncles. Around me set five S/MTA's still working .

I can remember when an M was a big tractor. The first big tractor in our neighborhood was an 806 Diesel. The neighbor pulled 6 bottoms with it. When my dad and grandfather bought a new John Deere 3020 diesel power shift in 64 the neighbors said they had lost their mind, it was too big. They should have bought two 4020s and not looked back. They rented all the ground they could and ran that 3020 dawn to dusk. Unfortunately, I had to disk it all with the FMD and a 10 KBA.

Relative of my one friend they bought two 3020's and farmed 940 acres . They said a 4020 was way to large . when the 30 series came out the one brother was at the small John Deere dealer looking at the 4430 that had just come in and asked the dealer WHAT IDIOT would buy something that big around here and the dealer said YOUR BROTHER . So not to be out done what did he do but a week later bought a 4630 and the Hp battle was on.
