Hi there new to the site , I have a 1986 Ford 1710 three cylinder diesel. I’m changing the water pump I noticed in the manual drawings. They show a O-ring on the engine side which marries to the water pump. When I took my old water pump off, there was none. Do I need a ring for this year? If so, can I use automotive O-ring? Thank you .

Orings require a recess. Is there a groove or counterbore on the face of the block or pump?
