O/T Almost .......

I was coming home today and saw someone test driving a Jeep for sale. He was making a left across traffic, and someone coming the other way not paying attention(on cell phone) almost rear ended the Jeep.

That got me thinking. Has anyone had an accident while test driving a vehicle? And how would the insurance handle that mess? Doug N

Insurance follows the car. If it's a dealer car..they have insurance. If it's a private party...their insurance. If they don't have it, your insurance. But...each best have collision on the policy.

Yep, dealer's insurance pays, or the other driver's depending on circumstances.
I was test driving an El Camino years ago. Sitting in the street w/turn signal on waiting to make a left turn into the dealer's lot. He's watching, anxious to see if I was buying. Kid in a Riveria, one of the old big ones, rearended the car behind me, a Rambler wagon, which hit the El Camino in the back. Totaled the Rambler and Riv, dented the bumper only on the one I was in, probably because I heard the tire squeal and dumped the clutch an instant before the Rambler hit me.

Dealer was scared badly, my wife and 2 small girls were with me, but no one was hurt, just cars. The kid's liability paid for the Rambler and repairs to the dealer's car.

I didn't buy it.

Unless it is in a field, do not "test drive" a car with non current plates. Also check to make sure the seller has current insurance. His/her word is not proof, but it is strong prudence on your part. JimN

Worked with a guy one time who ate a brand new Chevy one time. Back in the day before people worried about such things, he got a new truck, drove it off the lot to go get it insured in next town. Hit a deer and rolled it down a levey. Drove it 10 miles, made payments for 5 years.
