I live in Maryland. We are in a moderate to severe drought right now according to whoever makes that call. I think we are 4 1/2 inches below normal rainfall. Anyhow I heard on the news this morning that the crab harvest isn't going to be good this year...The cause, lack of rain. They said the water is too salty now. Now come on, I don't know anything about crabs, the salt content of the chesapeake bay or anything else but it's hard for me to figure out how a bay that is up to over a mile wide in places, and deep enough (a couple hundred feet) to have HUGE ships come up it to unload, how can a 4 1/2 inches defeceit have that much impact. sounds to me somebody wants to make more money off their crabs...I might be all wet on this or in this case salty...bahahaha

I think 4 1/2 inches of rain over a large area equals many million cubic feet of fresh water that is not diluting the salt water in the bay, hence the higher salt content in the bay. The same thing happens in florida when they have a drought, salt water invades their fresh water wells for lack of fresh water flow outward.

Its all BS.I live in Md too, when have they ever said we have plenty of crabs this year ,prices will be cheap. There's always an excuse to keep the prices up.

Oh great. With a shortage of cows that means a large reduction in m,ethane production and global warming will come to a standstill. I'll do my part by buying several large sirloin steaks to broil this weekend. HOLY COW< what we will do for bulls**t and cow patty tosses.

How can the bay be more salty? With all this global warming(because of all the cows releasing methane, tee hee hee}and glaciers and extra icebergs breaking off the antarctic I dont see how this could happen.I do like this global warming though as we dont get so much snow anymore which makes lobster season longer therfore we all get cheaper lobsters.so I dont give a hoot what crabs in MD cost.Later Hoss

I live on the water and there are very few crabs out there ,much less than last year or most any other year. I don't know why,but i have been out there and there's not much there. If you don't believe me just look in the tractor photo section and look at my picture of a 1937 silver king.

That's fine. In ignorance cast stones at watermen. My family is used to it. You brag about how little you know, and sneer at the same time.

A piddly little difference in rain water can't affect corn either. Right?
