after buying tractors all over America I finally hit the most obnoxious dealer ever ----it was lenox farm supply in pa---I asked about the hrs on 2 tractors and the dealer said how would he know---I thought anyone who deals in tractors could look at the pedals and a host of other things and get close it must have been his time of the month--so I told him I was going to buy a tractor now and would simply find a dealer who was in business to sell---it was amazing his address had bottom in it because he truly was the bottom of the barrel LOL

Amazed ppl like that stay in business! Recently had one that had attitude with me asking questions about the item for sell. Was the roughest sale ever had done!

I know the dealer you are referring to personally. I have dealt with him on quite a few occasions and never have I had any negatives to say any thing about. It just goes to show there is usually two sides to each story.

Kinda funny but one guy I've dealt with here I really like because most of the time any major issues are addressed before a tractor or implement goes on the lot. He tells you everything he knows about something. My brother in law hates him cause he doesn't give stuff away.

Hmmm, sounds like he was being HONEST if he truly didn't know the history of the machines.

Would you rather he looked you straight in the face and tossed imaginary numbers/ lies at you?

hahaha so loose recap....one tractor jockey mutha f'ing another tractor jockey, online, about being honest?? am i close? im betting your gonna say i way off....

Well really if there is no hr meter how would he KNOW,he could make a guess.Even if there is an hr meter he still doesn't really know.I've seen tractors with a lot of hrs not really look like they had that many hrs on them and tractors been beat with few hrs that looked like they had a lot. Most of my tractors I have here any estimate of the number of hrs would be
pure speculation and a made up number so I'd probably say How would I know?Would you really be able to positively say that a tractor had 6000 hrs and not 10,000 if you knew none of its history?

I guess you never bought anything from John Stamm when he was in business then did you? LOL

I grew up in a farm machinery dealership. That dealer may counting his blessings that you did not buy from him also. There are people out there that can't be pleased no matter how hard you try.
I don't know you, so I'm not calling you one of those PIA's.

I would agree with him, why throw a number out that is totally a guess and have customer come back with issues later.

He was honest.

Not necessarily about an obnoxious salesman, but when my brother and I grew up, we farmed with Oliver, which eventually became Agco.
About 10 years ago, my brother was combining and two local BTO brothers, who farm with John Deere, stopped into my brother's field to shoot the bull and compare yields. My brother was harvesting with a New Holland, sold by the local Agco dealer. The local Agco salesman happened to see the three of them in the field (well, obviously the two BTO brothers) and pulled his pickup in. My brother has known this salesman for decades. The salesmen gave some sodas to the BTOs and threw in a candy bar. He shot the breeze with them for a good 15 minutes, commented on yields, yukked it up with them with the latest joke and then went on his way. My brother was excluded from the conversation, was not offered a soda and the salesman acted like he didn't exist.
So exactly where do the salesmen learn their customer relations? BTW, it wasn't because of this incident, but because they wouldn't stand behind their work, my brother has completely gotten away from using Agco equipment. He still mentions what this salesman did occasionally, so it obviously left a lasting impression.

I had a customer once that wanted me to pull off the oil pan so he could inspect the bearing for wear. I told him to go and buy a brand new tractor because no used one was ever going to suit him. It seems like the hardest to please people often get taken the most. Tom

I had one of those in the generator business. Some how I was elected to handle all his service calls. He was never happy. Nit picked everything he could find. I was very glad when I retired.

There must be dozens of businesses that treat the customer like toxic waste. it makes me wonder how they stay in business? But often there is enough customer turnover to make it possible.

We had a couple guys when I was in the concrete business that always were a pain boss handed me an order one morning told me to go out on the job and tell this guy why we can get a truck to his job.I asked the boss what if there isn't a reason? He replied Find one.(LOL)

Hi if you know tractors you'll get it. Iv'e brought and sold many over the years, and not brought a good few more. The clock said 4000 hours and all the grips where worn off the clutch pedal or half way off the brake pedals or even worn totally smooth. then start looking at wear in the gear linkages and other parts. that tractor was more likely 14000 hours round the clock once or twice than one careful owner at 4000 hours, I've seen 4020 Deeres twice round with one family owner show 6000 hrs and they looked worn out!.

I own a Belarus tractor here we brought new in 96, ours has 5000 plus hard loader tractor hours on and is worn out, a guy close to here i fix for has the same model tractor 200 tractors different in serial number. his has 9000 hours on the clock and is still like new. you can tell his has been left in the yard with the key turned on sometimes clocking "electric hours" or has been left idling in the cold weather over it's life. if a guy was so inclined it could have a 4000 hour clock fitted and you'd never know what happened.
Regards Robert

Dad always said just look a the drawbar hole. If it's egg shaped that thing has pulled it's guts out for quite a few years. All of our tractors have egg shaped drawbar holes!

If he had made an honest estimate based on pedal wear you would be all over him for making it up. You asked for a number, which means it needs to be from a meter. Had you asked about general wear on the machine you probably would have gotten a different answer. Sounds like you are hard to deal with and he is fortunate you went elsewhere. He dodged the proverbial bullet.

both tractors had tachs -he was too lazy to go look and we have bough and sold 67 trailer loads of equip since starting in feb 2017---so I can judge a tractor wear fairly good like combines simply look at discharge auger---so this dealer clearly was too in incompetent to know tractors and yeas there are several wear points on all brands of tractors if you know them

just so you know I have sold hundreds of tractors and guaranteed EVERY one --but then I care about customers and truly think the only thing a business has to sell is service---so you can take your repy and look in the mirror--yep you found one LOL
