October rainfall

Well, it got some better. Two storms early gave us 5.71". This means we're at 84.96% of where we should be historically and 92.82% of last year's dry condition. There is a chance for rain midweek that should be almost 1". To get back on track I need over 4" more this year.
How do you measure 1/100th of an inch of rain?

We went to Tennessee the first week of the month. My son said it rained here for three days straight while we were gone. He said we got 2 inches. Hasn't rained enough to speak of since. That's fine with me. Too late to do any good anyway. I've been able to work most every day and get some things done.

I agree. At this point replenishing the ground water is the best i can hope for. The winter forecast here says above average snow that that helps although I have to push it get get out.

I have duck hunters on my river bottom this morning. About 40 acres out of the 60 acre field with water standing. Here in southeast Iowa we had the second wettest September on record. October has given us better weather but rains have interrupted harvest several days. Bottom ground will probably have to wait for frozen ground.

A few days ago our total for October at a nearby NOAA weather station was around 1.5 to 1.7". We have gotten nothing to add to that. It has been estimated that my general area needs 15 inches at a minimum to bring water levels back to normal. A predicted rain chance made yesterday for later this upcoming week has been mostly dropped this morning. My belief is that a large area of high pressure has been anchored over much of the southeastern US for over a year, and upper level sysrems have been steered around it or weakened. Until this pattern breaks down not much relief will happen. El Nino has not appeared.

Looking at the drought map, I think your area is marked by skull and crossed bones. You're sure hurting more than I am.

It's not total devistation here, but I'm looking hard at cull cows and then some. There's gonna be a bunch going.

We are about at 2" here, first rain since May, started about 10 days ago. Green grass is starting. This is good and quite normal. There have been years when the first rain doesn't come until late November, by then it starts to get cold and the grass doesn't grow. We have been getting.02"-.03" every night, sure makes things wet.

We had several rain events it just never amounted to much, Central NC. I always thought of October as being our driest month. I never plan on doing any construction work after Nov. 15th it will turn off wet and cold and never dry out.

Sanford-Lee County Regional Airport Area: Recorded roughly 1.3 inches of total precipitation for the month, which is slightly below the typical historical average for October in the local Piedmont region.
