OE Carb Filter

Hey guys!

I bought this little guy about a month ago and I'm getting to know him. While it's a running tractor that I use around them farm, I also want to preserve and restore it. The PO changed the carb and added a modern inline filter. While it work well, I'm concerned about the rubber hose so close to the exhaust and I'd like to put the glass fuel filter settlement bowl. (My mother has memories of watching this when she was a child on her father's tractor.) Will the OEM style filter fit onto this aftermarket carb?

Should I be worried about the rubber hose? It is a hard metal line to just below the bottom of the exhaust manifold.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Buy a fire extinguisher if you leave the rubber. I'd scrap that mess and make a steel fuel line and put it back like factory. Shiney carburetor though.

You won.t be able to install an OEM sediment bowl on that carburetor as it looks to have pipe thread on the inlet where a 641 would use a banjo bolt to attach the bowl assembly. That being said a guy could attach a generic assembly on it as it should be easy to find one with 1/8'' pipe threads on it and use a nipple between carb and the bowl assembly. I also would remove the rubber gas line and replace it with a steel line, make a good project when you install the glass sediment bowl. I also have a 641, they are a great little tractor.

That's what I thought. Is it a standard line that connects from the steel line I have coming from under the manifold to the carb/settlement bowl filter?

And as a bit of a side note… I believe your 641 has a universal radiator hose being used as an air intake hose… Not a huge thing, but just be certain that it has no cracks and isn’t collapsing. A radiator hose is designed for pressure, not vacuum. The 641 originally had a formed rubber hose connecting the carb to the air filter (not a steel pipe, with rubber connections at both ends, like some similar models).

Happen to have a photo of what I believe to be the original factor set up…

Thank you. That does help. I'm a visual guy. I also went out to the shop and snapped a couple photos. Looks like there are threads on the end of the pipe coming from behind the manifold. Also, looks like the carb has a female threaded hole and someone added an adapter to get the rubber hose on.
