Hi there, I have a 1986 Ford 1710 three cylinder diesel tractor. I took old water pump off replacing with new . I noticed in manual a o-ring on engine water port which marries to water pump. Is this O-ring necessary for my year? If so, can I match with automotive O-ring? Thank you.

You will need to post some photos of the old pump and the new pump gasket surfaces, as well as the part on the engine that it mates to. As discussed in your previous thread the parts book shows a gasket not an oring. Who knows, a different engine may have been installed in your tractor.

Great news !! I ordered the O-ring part number SBA052300250 for my 1986 Ford 1710 yes it does take this O-ring and of course the gasket that seals the water pump. hopefully this helps other people. thanks for the great feedback everyone🚜

This picture from the online parts book makes more sense. The drawing you posted appears to be incomplete compared to the online one. The gasket seals the backing plate to the water pump. The O-ring seals the back cover plate to the timing gear cover. If the back cover plate is on the new pump, the gasket should be in that joint already.

In you original thread it seemed like you were only wanting clarification on the main mounting gasket. My apologies for missing the additional port oring.
