Oil canister tightness question

How tight should I put the oil canister down on the rubber ring?

Snug it down, start the engine and see if it leaks.

Tight but not too tight, don't know how else to describe it. Their should be a cooler washer under the bolt head. I recently replaced those washers on mine, I had to buy a pack of 4 from the dealer. About $10 if I remember correctly.

Oops, yes copper washed under the head of that bolt. Kind of a special washer, thicker than normal for that diameter.

the CU washer is needed for proper sealing. The base of the housing fits into a groove, in which is a square section Oring. The Oring needs to be replaced almost every time. Usually it appears to be the steel bottom of the groove, and must be picked out with a small flat screwdriver, or other edged tool to get it started out. Tightness is a firm two finger pull on a 8 inch wrench. More is not needed. Do not scratch the groove! Jim

I got it to seal and went out and 1/2 lapped my 2 acre pasture the ground was a bit rough in places. Got it finished, and it was still sealed
