I just changed the oil in my Jet star 3. First time changing it since I’ve owned it. I am extremely confused. Got it drained, replaced filter, and filled it back up. I started it, and noticed no oil pressure. I pulled the new filter and I don’t have any oil coming out, it I see oil on the dipstick. I hope I’m missing a huge step here. I began to think I filled it in the wrong area, but it’s showing on the stick. Any help is greatly appreciated

It’s the craziest thing. I don’t really know how it’s even possible. Maybe something broke loose and is clogging something? But the new oil should gravity drain down to the filter right? I have the spin on as well .

How long did it run before you shut it off? It could take a bit to register on the gauge before the filters are filled. A full flow filter (the spin on) gets oil pumped to it, not gravity flow to it.

What is the number of the filter you installed?

Take out your relief valve and clean it. Is behind pressure adjusting screw. Have seen happen many times. Sometimes air locks and pressure bypassing. Best to use the 51189 filter rather than the cheaper one.

I was thinking that too Jim but should show within a moment.

Sorry for the delay guys. I only ran it for about 10-15 seconds without seeing oil pressure. After checking everything a few times, I started it the next day and it ran for about another 15 seconds then I heard the motor make a different noise then the oil pressure picked. I may have panicked and shut it down before letting it circulate. I think I just need to remember I’m working with an old tractor and things seem to take just a little longer. Again sorry for not getting back. I appreciate the help and info.

Air lock. Has to build pressure to push air out.
