I have never had any luck with those. Usually they are broken, stuck, or broke off. Whenever I have to deal with them on my Farmall tractors, I remove them both then replace the upper one with the dipstick kit and plug the lower.

humm , dont know why, they are very handy. maybe people cant tell left hand thread. handy as a shirt pocket.

Better than a dipstick. And just as quick. Use the one on the H all the time. We fill so it will run out the top one If it is in between the 2 good to go. Finger tight and then just touch it with a wrench so it stays shut. No need for tight like a bolt.

You must have some awful bad luck. Out of the Super A, Super C, two Super H's, two Super M's and two 400's we have, we have had ZERO petcock problems.

What "dipstick kit?" The only dipstick I know of that goes in the upper petcock has been out of production for about 50 years. If you have a secret stash of them that's great for you but totally unhelpful for anyone else. They can't just go out to your stash and grab one when they happen to need one.

Being senior, Ive had my share of Farmall C stories . Put a quart in and move on .
Something I have to do is check the antifreeze protection .

Looks like dipstick conversion kit is still available. Search for JDS3379. Apparently it also fits old John Deeres.

Probably do not work well for OCD types with there
residual drip. Once closed they like to continue to form
a dip or two after wiping. They see the drip and say is
it not tight enough? and crank on it some more, then
next time wonder why it is so tight.

I'm thinking some tend to whale on them with hammers when they only need a slight tappy-tap-tap.
