Oil drain plug on 630

I seem to have stripped the threads trying to remove the engine oil drain plug. It just spins after I took a helper to the breaker bar. Any advice what to do next would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

OH BOY! You are really up against it. I'd try to get a big pair of vise-grip on it and see if you can put enough down force on it while turning it to get the rust or whatever past the threads. If that's a
no-go, drill a 3/8 or so hole through it. That will let the oil out and maybe you can get some loose-juice squirted up where it can do some good & try the vise-grips/pulling down again. Failing that, tap
the hole you drilled and get something rigged where you can exert a lot of pulling force while turning it. I guess the last resort is to cut thru it from the drilled hole with a hacksaw and try to compress
it into the kerf enough to come out, or saw it in two or more places until a piece will fall out. I don't think you want to heat anything or hit anything hard enough to break casting. Ultimately Helicoil
will repair it well, I think. Good luck and a lot of patience.

Thanks for the info! I was afraid that was going to be the best plan of attack. It is not leaking now, can I take the oil pump cover off and get most of the oil out for the time being. The fuel shut off diaphram let a bunch of gas into the crank case.

I would get on it with an air impact wrench and spin it counter clockwise until it gives up. To repair you can helicoil or tap oversize.

Removing oil pump cover: I think that would be OK and best. Pound for pound, gasoline is more explosive than dynamite & mixed with oil it would be a little like napalm. I would loosen the cover just
enough to get it to drain at a reasonable rate. You don't want a gusher that you end up swallowing/wearing/bathing in. Let us know how you get along.

Thank you all for the advice on how to proceed in this mess I have seem to have made for myself, you all are a valuable source of information
with your past experience. I think for starters I'm going to loosen the oil pump cover and drain what I can there. I'm not sure what would be next.
Being it don't leak I might be leaning toward drilling and tapping a new hole. I'm afraid messing with the old one I would end up with a hole I
can't plug. Thanks again, any new readers have a better idea don't be afraid to pipe in. I'll take all the advice I can get.

Seems there could be NO Way rust could be a problem from the TOP which is at the Bottom of the Crankcase..unless it had been setting with a gallon of water in there also..

Can't figure how that plug could do this...

Is there any way that the existing plug is a NON JD or NON-Original plug...??

Either way, if that plug will turn, it sure could leak..

If you could drill UP thru that plug and use a Good Slide Hammer, as another person turns the plug, it may come out..

Thanks for the idea. I can't believe it either. No rust, it just seems the threads have broke loose and it is wedged its self in the hole. It does not turn easy either direction. Thanks again

I like the persons idea of the air impact wrench. I addition getting the aluminum washer chiseled out of the way might give a gap to insert a pry bar to pry down as you spin it.

I do not like the idea of drilling another hole somewhere else !

Drilling the existing plug would be a better idea. The closer to center the better as you could increase drill bit size until it is so thin it can be collapsed out. You will have to leave the hex on so as to hold it from spinning as drilling though.

Sounds like this could get complicated. I would start with an impact and spinning and prying down. Saying a prayer before won't hurt either.

I don't know how much oil you will get out at the oil pump cover ? and then it will need resealed and the oil pump drive coupling will come unhooked as the gears fall down. You will then have to remove the top inspection cover to get that all hooked back up. You may remove that cover anyhow and siphon out the oil and see if you could a long steel punch and drive on the drain plug from the inside ?
