Oil Drain Plug Paint-Stuck

I bought a restored /repainted 1950 MM G tractor with cast iron engine, oil plug in underbelly. It has the square head drain plug. Have tried and tried to get the drain plug unscrewed so I can drain and change the oil. The repainting has apparently stuck that drain plug fast. I am trying NOT to strip or round-off the corners, but need some ideas. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Something that MAY help... put a jack under the wrench to force it up against the plug so it can't slip off so easily.

Are you turning it counter-clockwise? Use an 18-inch pipe wrench and if you remove it I would put some anti-seize on the plug before reinstalling.

well, i dont know about an MM G, but my little AC B has a pan that would cost $12 to replace from vintagetractors.com and that is way less then fixing a problem caused by dirty oil. I would put a peice of plywood or even a really bug box under the tractor, cover it with sawdust and unscrew the pan. Try a torch to loosten the plug

what is the measurement of the square head?? if it is a standard size go buy a square socket that will fit, for either 1/2 or 3/4 drive ratchet.. Which ever one you have at your disppossal..hth

I'll just say it again. It's real easy to turn the wrong way on a plug pointed up. We have all done it.
Other ideas are great too.

Or better yet, ask a question and learn to do it so that you can do it yourself and you dont destroy something. Been there done that.

Or even better yet-try answering peoples questions unstead of insulting them. Its a good feeling knowing that you helped someone do something correctially or easially. I dont know how many dumb questions i have asked here, but i know ive always gotten atleast one good intellegent responce. I am always willing to learn how to do things, which is good because i could never afford to pay someone to do it. There is no place here for comments like that. So try to learn something here and answer this question the next time it comes up or else just back off and shut the hell up.

Use a 4 point not 8 point socket. Get one that fits tight, put it on with a breaker bar and use a small hyd jack to keep it up tight. Use a cheater on the bar if you have to.

Take out the 4 bolts that hold the pan base sump to the bottom of the pan. This way you can clean the strainer for the oil pump.

Thank you to all who responded. It is always nice to get ideas from those who have confronted similar problems. I appreciate it.

Buy a brass or bronze pipe plug. If & when you get that old cast iron one out, replace with bronze. It won't sieze in place. Cast iron on cast iron will occasionally do this, especially if dry or not lubed.

Like others, I have those times when because of an odd physical position my head has difficulty deciding which way to turn the rascal to loosen it. So... I think, now if this was in a normal position and we wanted to tighten it, we would turn it this direction. Try it, and call me in the morning.

you may be better off just dropping the whole pan and having a machine shop remove it and install a brass plug as suggested
