oil filter/2N

Used up the last oil filter I had on hand, I've used Fram since I got the tractor. Is there a better filter? Or is it just personal likes? Wix, Napa, Baldwin..... Just wondering what others use. Thanks and Have a healthy, safe and happy New Year!

I use NAPA, but only because there is store close by, they all work. You could never change oil too often. I just changed oil in both of my 8n's and before doing so, I ran them long enough to burn off all of the moisture that had collected in the crankcase. Here in western Oregon we get a lot of condensation in the engine and gear boxes.

I use NAPA Gold 1010 filter. But as much as I hate to admit it, it was 18 years since I changed the oil and filter on my 8N. Howsomevers it only had 50 hours on it in all those years. Use the Jubilee, JD 855, and two Cub Cadets for just about everything I need getting done. The 8N just sits in the barn looking pretty. Guess I will have to make a new years resolution to change it at least every ten. ;

I also use whatever I can get my hands on, since honestly the oil never really stays in the tractor long enough to dirty a filter anyway. I try to change it every six months since she?s parked outside at the moment, and in that time the tractor runs *maybe* 25 hours. So long as the filter filters, I?m fine with any brand as long as it has the little handle on top to aid in removal.

I've used a couple of different makes and I prefer the Napa Gold 1010, which is also a Wix 51010.

Napa filters are built by wix. I use either one that I can get.. personal preference

Is one filter better than others? I don?t know, how does one gage effectiveness of an oil filter? There seem to be several suppliers and I suspect many are made by the same company and sold under different brands, and I?ve used most of them with no function issues whatsoever. The only mfg issues I know of are some don?t have the little pull ring on top to remove the unit and some lack gaskets. The FRAM CP is one of those but I?ve seen others. FRAM was the OEM supplier to FORD. Ever read the oil filter decal? The FRAM CP-3 filter does have the pull ring. Years ago suppliers would include the large rubber flat gasket that goes underneath the lid AND included the fiber washer that is needed under the lid fastening bolt. Suppliers no longer offer that part but it is available at CNH with Ford OEM p/n 01A-6749. I'll buy whatever is open when I need one. If I'm in town it's NAPA or auto parts store. If I'm 15 miles north at the CNH dealer I'll get one there. I get TISCO ones at my local KUBOTA dealer as he has most all Ford parts too. STEINER'S is 30 miles away from me. TSC and auto part stores have the FRAM.

Check around for price.
I bought this oil filter and some #1 Permatex on Monday. Didn't ask the price, just stuck my debit card in the machine.
When I looked at the reciept I was a bit dismayed at the price to say the least.
It's for a later Ford but same cartrage type of oil filter.

Same price here in Oregon for your 1279 filter. A 1010 for an N is 14.99.
