Oil filter conversion bolt size

Does anyone know the size socket I need to pull the center bolt on the oil filter converstion?
Can I use permatex or some other gasket sealer to replace the plate?

Did you find where it was leaking? Filter or conversion plate?

Can't recall the size but a crescent wrench or appropriate open or box end would work.

As far as the sealant, where do you plan on putting it? If your are using it along with the gasket beneath the plate it will work. I used "Aircraft" sealant on mine. The key will be to get the gasket in the right position as they sometimes slip out. BTDT Position the plate where you want it and try not to let it spin while you tighten the bolt.

I would not use gasket goop.. at least not alone.. DO use the oring.. etc.

The bolt size should be 3/4.If it's like the 8000 and 8600 I am currently working on at the Impliment dealership.

I took one off a 961 yesterday and it took a 1 in socket.I used the old filter gasket under it.

I tried a 1 1/8 socket (to small) and I tried a 1 5/16 (to big). So I'm guessing it is 1 1/4. I'll have to buy a socket this week after work.
Is it an o-ring or gasket under the plate? I would like to have everything on hand to put it back together once I get it apart.

There is a square shaped o-ring under the plate but a lot of people including me interchange the word gasket to describe it. It looks just like the gasket in the end of your throw away oil filter.

In fact the gasket for the old canister oil filter and the one under the conversion plate is the same part.
If your parts supplier does not have the gasket by its self with out buying the canister oil filter you can get it from Ford/NH for about $3.50

DO NOT USE any form of gasket sealer. Coat the rubber with oil and install on a clean dry surface. Hold the adapter still and do not let it rotate as you tighten the center bolt.
