Oil Filter Question

A while back I installed a spin on filter to my MHF 202 with the continental gas engine. I decided on this filter change to switch to WIX, but never saw an oil filter quite like this one. I am concerned that it has restricted flow however its possible that there is other passages beyond the holes that are visible.

Anyone have any input on this type of construction? Thanks Don

The hole in the Z134 block that feeds the oil filter is about 11/32" (.343") in diameter. The smaller hole in the new filter may raise the oil pressure slightly since it's a smaller hole. Chances are that new filter may also fit other engines with a smaller hole that feeds the filter. What brand is that new filter, and what is the diameter of the small hole in the center of the old filter compared to the new one. That center hole is really the deciding factor of how much oil eventually goes through it. The old oil filter really doesn't need all but one of those holes since those holes are bigger than the one hole in the block that's feeding it.

The original filter in the kit was a Fram PB50. The cross reference was WIX Oil Filter 51050. Did not pull the filter so no idea what size the hole on Fram. Looking at the tops of them, they are different.

So this must be a bypass filter. Wondering if going to a full flow filter would benefit the oil cleaning process or might that cause an oil pressure drop.
Thanks

(quoted from post at 06:34:23 06/28/20) To make it a full flow you would have to do what I did to mine in the video I posted. A filter with a bigger hole(s) would drop the oil pressure.

For now I just want to change it, but will look at the modification for down the road.

So its getting more clear. Need The restriction caused by the tiny hole to keep the oil pressure up otherwise as you explained in your modification the oil will just pass through the filter and dump back into the pan but do so at such a volume that there wont be enough pressure to force fluid into bearings

Thanks for helping
