FORD 9 N, have oil in radiator but no water in oil (crankcase), what happened, crack somewhere?Want some ideas before teardown Thanks, DON

Better check the head gasket! That was what we would usually find, way back when i was employed by a Ford Car and Tractor dealer. 1947-52. Did it freeze up at all, usually caused by no, or poor, drainage, and by an owner too poor to buy anti-freeze for it. I've seen some where they used kerosene in place of anti-freeze.

I can"t remember but isn"t a 9N non pressurized coolant system?

If on that engine oil and coolant pass each other and are separated only by a gasket oil could be pushed through into the cooling system, and the lack of pressure the other way could keep coolant out of the crankcase.

I would think if it were hole in the block or a crack, you would have coolant in there.

How much oil are you getting?

It is unlikely that it is oil. It is just crud form 60 years of not using clean containers, etc to fill it.
Drain the coolant and flush the system. Then refill and run it. Keep an eye on it. I'll bet that you do not have a problem.
