Oil Leak after over heating

Due to a knackered fan belt, yes I should have checked it but the tractor came with the water pump just replaced and I didn't think they would re-fit the knackered belt, well she boiled up. No signs of H/G failure, water is clean and no signs of coolant in the Oil. However she has developed this oil leak that seems to be from the exhaust gasket:-

We are not losing a lot of oil it just looks worse than it is but I would like to get to the bottom of this if possible.

Anyone seen this before on the Yanmars?

Only you, (hands-on inspection) can determine what is leaking; however, it could be diesel slobber, (unburned fuel mixed with carbon), from the exhaust. It usually blows out the exhaust pipe al over everything.

looks to be dirty engine oil thats leaked and crept up to the exhaust manifold.try tightening the IP bolts and the like around the leak area and see how it goes.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have just tried to tighten the nuts that hold the exhaust silencer (Muffler) to the manifold and managed to tweek them up a bit. We will have to wait and see if that helps or not. I will try to obtain a new gasket for the exhaust silencer and see if that helps as well.

The leak certainly seems to be from this joint but oil does travel so time will tell if i am right or not.

The oil level does drop very slightly in say 8 hours of hard work the level will drop about 1mm on the dipstick. The oil was changed 25 hrs of working time ago along with the filter.

You should not have oil anywhere near the exhaust manifold. The fix is going to be an overhaul. A carbon cleaner additive may help.

Just realized (and assume) this is the same YM1601 that was turned over. If so, it could have oil anywhere and everywhere. just clean it off and keep running it.

Norm yes it is the same one. She was laying upon her right side for about an hour or so until we managed to get her out and upright again.

Sadly an engine overhaul is beyond economic repair. The prices here in the UK just make it not workable. If you could see our prices it would give you an heart attack. For instance two 20 litre drums of "John Deer" branded Hy-Gard oil was just under $200 USD and that was discounted as the dealer now sells New Holland equipment and not John Deer..

I priced up a replacement exhaust as the chrome trim is all broken up on ours and it vibrates but the exhaust came out at about $300 USD. Just did a search and it looks like we could get one, a pattern one that is from the US for $160 USD.

I am not sure if anyone in the UK does spares for this 3TU engine.

Well of course, why didn't I think of that! No doubt, a turnover could put oil where it is not suppose to be. <E></E>
