All pics taken from bottom of axel except the one as you can tell. It is leaking were the white patch is maybe a little toward the trumpet but not on the trumpet. the leak is so small can't hardly see it but there is oil on the bottom inside of the wheel
 
i agree.. pics just show a dirty axle trumpet.

but he's thinkingthere is some 6" crack down there.

that would be a new one on me.

I'd be more inclined to think leaky axle seal and an overfull sump
 
He's claiming that there was a visible 6" crack, and then he put JB Weld on it, and it stopped leaking for a while. The light colored area is supposed to be where the JB Weld is, so you can no longer see the crack, and now it's starting to drip again.
I would say that if he knows where it's cracked and where it's leaking, he should either grind off the JB weld and repair the crack properly by braising or welding it, or he should replace the trumpet.
