oil, oil everywhere

Yanmar 1500D w/ FEL

Any ideas why oil is pukeing out from the front crank seal all of a sudden??????????

Is the engine oil overfull? Other than leaking is it running normally?

oil was full to spec on dip stick. nothing out of the ordinary took place when i last used it, happened after parked for a few days.

Make sure pulley is not loose.

If it is the same size as my YM1500 it is 1 13/16" and you can get one @ Tractor Supply for around $8.00. Everywhere else I looked they were $24 to 50.00. You do not have to take the cover off to replace the seal.

ok, now have everything out of the way and socket to remove nut, what is best method to keep crank from moving to remove harmonic balance/pulley

Put the socket on a breaker bar, crank the breaker bar CW against a solid object, (front frame, or board on the ground), bump the starter a time or 2. It will spin right off. Did it on an Olds once, works great.

Why didn't it work? If the battery and starter are up to par it has to work, or break something. Mine did lift the front of the car, but it broke the nut loose. Mechanics do this routinely if they don't have their compressors and impact wenches handy. Otherwise you have to remove the starter and attempt to jam something in the flywheel teeth.

Don't know why. Battery and starter are in the same shape as when I shut down for the leak, never had a problem starting this tractor. Probably will borrow an impact wrench.

Get a piece of 3" flatbar however long needed, cut a hole toward the end large enough for the socket to go through, drill holes to match the holes in the pulley. Attach to pulley, let bind off on frame, stick socket through cut hole and get down on it. Crazy idea, huh?

You are probably going to need 500-1,000 ft. lbs. of torque. I'm assuming you are saying the battery and starter were not strong enough.

If you can borrow a 1/2" impact wrench and compressor or use an electric one it will come right off. That is how I got mine off.

Beautiful!! I don't know why I'm over thinking this project. 1/2" Matco impact and 1 13/16" socket did the trick. Should be smooth sailing from here. Thanks to all who weighed in.
