Oil preference

What is best recommendation for engine oil for a 3000 and a 3930 with diesel engine? Thanks.

I use wallyworld 15w-30. Just changed my 3000 and 3910 yesterday.

Rotella t4 15w-40, or mobile delvac 15w-40, or chevron delo 15w-40... all hd diesel oils, all available at wal mart. All all will meet or exceed the original spec oil for your tractors.

The manual calls for single-grade oil, no? I figure the engine designers probably had some reason to do so.

Yes they did!
Multi weight oil had not been invented yet.

Go with the good stuff! 15W40 Diesel Grade. I am using Shell T5 synthetic blend in my 4600.

I don't believe that's true. The manual does list one multi-grade oil (5W-20),
but only for temperatures below -12C.

I don't think there's anything about the different brands that makes one better than the other in oil today, especially for an older tractor. For what it's worth Shell Rotella did have a different rating that some of the others as it was only rated for diesels and retained a different additive package. That said I'm a Mobil user and have been for decades.

I use Mobil 10W-40 in my petrol '67 3000. A little extra protection on cold starts never hurt anything.

In the year 1960 oil has come. Long long way In 50 plus
years . And manuals did list multi viscosity oil as well
