What was the oil pressure before this happened? How long did it run without oil pressure? What is the condition of the bearings? Oil goes thru the pressure relief valve and thru the oil galley to the bearings before it gets to the gauge and the oil filter.

As a rule, the oil pressure gets lower and lower as the pump wares out. Nine out of ten times the pickup tube breaks loose at the pump if the pressure is lost suddenly. While you have it apart, I would go ahead and rebuild the pump. I would double check the tube for a leak. A pin hole will cause total lose of pressure. Check the releaf valve on the front top of the engine to make sure its not stuck.
