i am ready to install the oil pump on my farmall 300 169 cu in motor should i prime it and if so what is the best way to do it? thanks Bill

It can be well lubed up with petroleum jelly, no need to pack it full, just nice and "greasy".
I also recommend pumping oil into the engine through the oil pressure sending fitting on the block. Use a pump oil can and a bit of tubing to make a temporary seal. This will fill the oil passages and provide oil pressure rapidly. It may take a few loadings of the oil can, but you will know when it is primed as the oil can will be harder o pump. Jim

thanks jim have lubed the new bearings with lucas heavy oil oiled everything i could as i put it back will do as you said to fill all the oil passages Thanks again Bill

The Vaseline or transmission assembly lube in the oil pump is a great plan.

I use a home-made lube system primer, as well...

I's pretty simple... engine oil in a clean, dedicated pump-up garden sprayer connected to the oil gauge port. It's pretty easy to pump in a quart or two of oil to FULLY lubricate all pressure-oiled parts before initial startup.

I have used it on some engines that have say for years without being started, as well. (Just deduct the oil pumped in that way from the initial oil fill.)
