Since I have the oil pan off was thinking of replacing the oil pump. Was running 42# of pressure when shut her down. Book also says to go to the newer g rotor style they started putting in after "61. Got a "62 801 and has the pre "61 style pump wiyh yhe case over the drain screen. Getting heads reworked and going to put new rings in. Spring sure has slowed this project down. raining every oyher day so that helps. What would you do on oil pump? Thanks, Dave

I don"t know what your oil pressure specs are but as a matter of course, since you"re investing in all that work and the old pump was replaced by a different design, if it were me, I would replace the pump as long as there were no major modifications to the engine to do so.

I would put a new old type gear pump in. My 960 oil pressure was lower than 40 psi. I called Ford thy said to use new type pump. I priced all the parts to change it over to new type pump It was over $200. I changed oil & filter, oil pressure come back up to 40+ psi. It would be good time to rplace rear main seal if leaking & check main bearings. It seems like there is no stoping point thes old tractors till we are out of money.
