replacement oil ring has no markings, read in archives that it doesn't matter which way the bevel goes, anyone know which way they came ?? or is it true that it doesn't matter. ???

You didn't get an instruction sheet with them to show how they go ? Can you post a picture of it so we can see them. If it is beveled it does matter.

bevel goes to the top. only time it makes no diff. is when there is no dot or bevel. upside down and the engine will use oil.

Yes that outside bevel should go towards the top of the piston. Did you ever find a mark on your pistons as to how they lay in the cylinder ? I think that was you ? What year B is it ?

yes, someone on here said the hole through the piston went on top. also found a groove filed in the skirt i presume is a mark for the top.....thanks for all the help.

That was me trying to help. These are factory pistons and rings for an H. Looks like yours is different. First pic is the holes I mentioned. They are only around half of the circumference and they go to the top. Second pic TOP is stamped on the skirt. Third is the oil ring, not the same as yours. Picture is not good but it can go either way in the groove.

So, if the oil ring goes at the bottom of the piston, the bevel goes to the top. Does it make a difference if the oil groove is say above the wrist pin right under the compression rings?

I guess I never really paid attention to those drain holes. I was always able to find the factory marks to go by.
