I am working on a Super M. I haven"t replaced any oil seals before and want to make sure I am doing it correctly. The first question I have is on the front of the lower transmission shaft and the PTO shaft. The seals I removed looked like it may have been a double seal and is approximately 1" thick. The replacement seal I got is about 1/4" thick and is "C" shaped. Is this correct? The second question I have with the "C" shaped seals which way do the seals get installed? With the solid side out or should it be to the "oil" side?

The original seals were leather and thicker, the newer ones are better. Always insert with the lip and spring toward the oil. I assume the "C" you refer to is a cross section of the seal, with the part of the seal touching the shaft forming the top of the C.

Yes, That was what I was referring to was the cross section of the oil seal. Thanks for the information on the oil seals.
