Oil side mount distributor

Another stupid question. With other distributors, I've just put a couple of drops down the shaft. On the 8N side mount, there appears to be a fitting for oil. So, how do you get the oil in there?

ront mount does not have an oil tube/external access as does the side mount, however, it receives oil for the rear distr bearing via splash from cam gear area and for front bearing via an oil soaked wick inside the hollow distributor shaft. It would appear that Ford thought that the wick was to hold a life time supply of oil, as I never see instructions to replenish. It is possible to replenish, but it is difficult to remove the wick access screw in the tang end of the distributor shaft. I have found them to be very tight, soft brass and staked in place as if never intended to be removed. One could probably add oil to wick via the hole in the side of the shaft (normally hidden by the upper bearing/bushing) by using a syringe after distr dis assembly.

Hey, I did preface it with saying it was a stupid question. Just never had a distributor with an oil fitting before. I thought maybe there is a tool to oil it like a grease gun.

I think you comment was crass and uncalled for, and not appropriate for this forum.

I'm talking about just the plastic body.. no needle.

the blastic syringe bodies are easy to find and completely legal.. every pharmacy has them in the diabetic supply section.

-most- farm supply and vet supply places have them as well for obvious reasons, just look near the medicine cooler, or in the animal health section.
