Old JD baler worth???

There is a pretty nice old model 14T baler with a Wisconsin 2 cylinder engine that is not stuck. Baler appears to have been
shedded and had been cared for. Is it worth saving from the scrap pile???

It probably weighs around one ton for scrap. As-is it could be worth $500 as a working baler. Local demand for a low capacity baler could make a big difference on the price: small hobby farmers, horse acreage owners, etc.

I bought a 24T last year for 1,500 dollars. It is pto driven off the tractor though. It was in good condition and field ready and from a neighbor. 14T came before the 24T I think. Trying to find someone to work on these old balers can be a challenge. Make sure the engine has compression if possible to do that?

Run and don't look back , had one when I was growing up it was bought when it was a year old with 500 bales through it. One of the biggest pos we ever had . Between breaking auger shear pins and if you got into a heavy windrow you have to crawl or in would choke down.

We had one for many years. When JD came out with the bale thrower we had one installed. I would'nt try to guess how many bales it made. Very trouble free but, it's not a high capacity machine.

The 14T we used had slip clutches on the auger and on the pickup. Shear pins on those drives would have been a pain. Yours must have been a very early machine. Ours was around a 1960 model, low capacity, around 60 strokes per minute and the pickup only moved at a little over 3 MPH. A JD B could power it though.

Yes find an Amish area and advertise it there. Verey desireable with that engine. As they would pull it with horses. And the biggest problem with that engine is NOBODY takes the shroud of the engine and blows dirt out every day and at timesdeeds done twice a day. That is the reason for hard starting as without doing that the engine over heats. Havinf that engine dust free or cloged can make the difference between a sale or no sale.
