Old light switch finally failed

Mom thinks her floor lamp is 75 years old. I think Dad bought the adapter you see in the sixties.

Putting a newer style switch in it was going to be a fair amount of rework. I went to a local mom and pop electric store in town. To my surprise, they will have one Thursday. Twenty three bucks.

This is tractor related because the switch is a Mogul style base. Lol

You got 20 more years out of your switch than I got out of my great aunt's lamp switch. Currently it has a poorly installed modern socket/switch. I hope someday I can restore it to original condition. It used 3 way mogul bulbs.

We used to have a family run lamp and shade store in town that had all kinds of parts line that going clear back to knob and tube wiring. When they closed up shop 10 years ago the inventory went in dumpsters.

(quoted from post at 17:06:10 01/03/23) House lamps had mogul sized bases? I never knew that

I still have my grandparents' reading light. It uses a mogul base 3-way bulb.

Bulbs for those old lamps are still available.

I have a BIG light bulb that I picked up at some yard sale many many years ago. I guess it was some kind of stadium light bulb. It has a big socket like that but the bulb itself is marked 1,000 watt.

I also have some regular sized light bulbs but these are for flash photography. They have a lot of filament type stuff in them and are for a single use. They put out quite a bit of flash light. They are neat to put in a floor lamp and watch the surprise of the person that switches on the lamp.

They used to make stuff to last. The water cut off valve in my parents house dates back to around WWII and is still in use. I had had the cut off valve turned off at my house and yesterday went to turn the water on and it exploded in my face. Two years old and this wasn't one of those cheap plastic valves.
