Member trackrat seems to be a major contributor. I asked him once (maybe twice) where he runs across them, apparently didn’t see my question or felt like it wasn’t worthy of a reply. Maybe he thought I would scold him, I’m over that it’s a free country no real restrictions on what he posts accept abiding by forum rules. One thing about it he is either picking them out of the “Similar Threads” area or he is intentionally searching the YT database some way. It’s not like it use to be in the old software where you could browse through the “archives” I know I have sort of “soap boxed” in general a time or ten about looking at the date of the thread. He has actually almost got me on a blunder a couple times. Quite often old threads are revived by folks running a web search on some problem and then register and tag their request on the old thread. So those topics are generally about “how do I fix this?” Where he got me was by the randomness of the topics so I paid less attention thinking the post was current. I’m priming up to make a reply, then the skillet comes down on my head when I notice the date. My two cents. So if the t-rat reads this just wanting to know where you come across them, just curious, no further action will be taken. (y)

How come so many old posts are showing up lately. Some that are ten years and older. And guys are commenting on them or adding imfo...
Because the original poster don’t follow up on what fixed it. Or say problem fixed . So people just keep adding and adding ideas. Too much time in their hands I think. And start a new post or topic no mix it in old stuff. Too many cooks spoil the soup.

My opinion, the forum owners should get rid of the similar threads feature at the bottom of each thread. I think that would solve 99% of the posting on the old posts.

May be some merit to it. But i think its to see if the subject has been posted already.

Its above your head and below your feet!:D Its the way were wired as people. Take a clean freak (me) vs.. a complete slob in the shop.
Oh I get it and I have empathy for you. I just can't go through life letting trivial things that I have no control over stress me out.

I have had Dept Heads tell me that I "don't stress out enough" its how I am wired. :giggle:

I figured trackrat was just a data harvesting bot.

I get entrenched in stuff and process it much deeper than most. Will look at a broken item and study it for a long time. A friend would throw it in the dump get a new one and move on.

Like I mentioned , I empathize, i've always done the same at work. But if it's something I have no control over I don't worry about it.

In the Navy we would tell you "stop Nuking it " ;)

I don't mind a bit of the necroposting, and some is clearly irrelevant, but the power of google is amazing. Otherwise, I've advocated for the pop up warning before posting on a thread that's over "xxx" days old. If it was up to me, the forum software option would be enabled. But America, it's not my dog and pony show. Some of the information is clearly helpful..... so water off a duck's back.

While we're on the topic of old posts and along these lines, the fact Old's threads get deleted when he (or others on his behalf) get hurt feelings is a bit much. There are instructions in those threads that another user could find valuable in the future. With the most recent deletion, there was much info lost on troubleshooting the fuel system on a twin cylinder Briggs in a Craftsman riding mower. If individual posts lead to hurt feelings, get rid of the posts, but don't delete the entire threads. If it's just oversensitivity, duck's back again.

The similar threads has gotten me before.

As has the lightning bolt although that feature I’ve used successfully I just have to be careful

At the risk of upsetting the powers at be the similar threads I’ve not even once successfully found info I’m looking for in that area. And the similar threads for this particular thread is a good example. It’s not quite on target.
