Old schrader valve broke inside stem

Yesterday I began to add a little air to the right rear tire in my 52 8N. It too the air but began to leak air out the old schrader valve.

I thought, no problem, and went to get the valve out of a new valve stem I keep just in case. Problem was I could not get the old valve out of the old stem.
Using the tire stem tool I backed out the old valve till it reached the top of the stem, but that's as far as it would go. I used needle nose pliers to grad the body of the valve but the body came out but not the center or pin.
I tried to pull out the pin but started to worry I might mess the inside threads. I was unable to push the pin into the tire either.

My solution was to teflon tape the outside stem theads and screw on a steel valve stem extender from my suburban tire on to of the old tire stem to stop the air leak, and it worked just fine.
I added the metal dust cap on the extender too.

Just in case it might help someone else.

Not sure if you know this but the whole stem
that contains the schrader valve will
unscrew from the tube and can be replaced.

It looked like it might unscrew but this is my first tire/stem related issue with my 8N. I was afraid to break it not knowing.

My wife's great uncle had this 8N for about 34 years before I bought it from him almost 20 years ago.

He told me the tires that on the tractor are the same tires that were there when he bought it.
Together, these tires have seen over 50 years of service so I have not had to deal with any tire air problems.

I added the valve extender quickly due to the age of the rubber. I was afraid to let the weight of the tractor pinch the old tire. They have enough cracks already. The tractor means a lot to me and I hope I can give it to my nephew in about 5 years still running.

Thanks for the response about the stem. There's still a lot I don't know about tractors, and I'm glad I ran across this site when I did. I guess the old guys really thought of everything back in the day.

My Grandfather was a Allis-Chalmers farmer all his life. He had every red implement there was. I always rubber necked AC until I was offered the 8N, now I'm hooked and I understand how my grandfather felt about his tractors.

I have one that's stuck like that, can't get it out, and leaks. I finally did the same and got a metal cap with a rubber seal in the end, holds air and is fine until I can do better. The tires have antifreeze in them and there is no unusual rust on the wheels. I hope the condition of the valve is not a sign of the inside of the tires/tubes.
