Old shop vice

I bought this vice over 20 years ago at an estate sale. It is a very heavy built vice and I always wondered about the tag on it. I figure D.P.C. in the corner of the tag is for Defense Plant Corporation but does anyone know what C.W.P. in the other corner stands for?

Lots of old shop equipment was sent to companies from the war production board during WWII. They got to keep the machines after. A lot of the machines I used during my apprenticeship at a GM plant still had the tag on them. They could not be sold, had to be scrapped.

Can't make all the name out, but if it has Athol Mass. on it, probably a L.S. Starrett brand, they make good vises, wish I had one.

It appears that the lower right corner of that tag was used as a location indicator.
i.e where it was originally used.

This site is a state by state list of
WWII Industrial Facilities: Authorized Federally Funded Facilities

If you can guess what state it might have been originally shipped to, you might find a plae that might have been identified with C.W.P.

I'm pretty sure the Starrett vices were made by Yost. I've got a 3 1/2 Starrett. It's a great vice. Starrett dropped bench vices from their line, but Yost is still in business.
