Old style SCV boxes

If someone would they could make good money as there are plenty of them that do not center correctly. Local Deere dealer had a mechanic that was good with them. He told me that he welded the relief valves shut and then lapped the valves making them work very well. He left before I could get any done and with the cost of Deere shop hours it might be cheaper to just buy another one. TimS on here does lots of the late style but does not work on the early ones. I am surprised some aftermarket company never came up with a replacement valve assembly. Tom

(quoted from post at 20:15:08 02/10/20) Does anyone work on the older 3010 4010 style SCV box es and test them

Although it wouldn't be original if it was my tractor I'd make a bracket that bolted to rear axle & mount/plumb spool valve to control rear breakaway couplers.

IMHO JD engineers went out of their way to make original SCV & steering valves ""way too complicated"".

I can test them,, but they are not successfully rebuilt....I don't have the tool to reseat them,, and the modern poppets don't work in them...

I have welded the relief valves shut myself, I bought the tool and stones to do them after I left the dealership. I just hook them to shop air to test. Salvage yards have rebuilt ones for $700 and can cost $1000 to rebuild.

I have rebuilt many of them. They are more difficult to rebuild and do require a service tool to block valves shut when making clearance adjustments with a dial indicator. Not uncommon they have an internal crack and they cannot be repaired. The best option if you can find and afford them is a set of valves from a 28 or 2940 that have the same internal valves and parts as a later Waterloo tractors only with no couplers that can be mounted in place of your old / original valves under hood in original location. Takes a little modification and control shafts from your original valves but, you have the best valve you can get in the original location and something that can be serviced. They have much better feel / control and work great as I have done this and they are out there working on loaders. Another option that I have done that is better yet is I have mounted these valves right above the differential lock pedal and plumbed then back to couplers. Some trick plumbing involved but, never altered or drilled a hole in original sheet metal or panels. When all done you can reach both SCV levers without lifting your arm of the seat arm rest. My customer praises me for this alteration. Only problem is salvage yards are very proud of of these valves! DW

I've rebuilt many over the years. I air test them before installing then test again with gauges on the tractor. I lap the seats with the stone then use valve lapping compound to lap the poppets to the seats. I add extra shims to the relief valve instead of welding. Where are you located?
