RedMF40

Not from Iceland!
Seeing if you tool-junkies know what this is. I know what the seller THINKS it is. Can’t make any sense of it. Hint: it’s not for recharging A/C or programming an ECM. Hope that helps.

Man those innertubes back then made great,,,,,,,,whatever you prefer calling those things kids use to shoot rocks at birds. Modern tubes are worthless for that so I wonder if hot patches will work on them.

Sling shots, we always looked for the red rubber tubes because they were the most elastic. That was our weapon of choice for squirrels. Haven't seen a red tube since I was a kid and they were scarce then. 🐿️🧑‍🌾

I have a couple of those hanging in the shed.Just stuff being thrown away by old garages that have no use for them.I just can't stand to see it go in the iron pile.Hot patches work on very, very few tubes anymore.Around 40 years ago,in the mid 80's,tubes seemed to go heavily synthetic. They will char and crumble when the heat hits them. However, hot patches still seem to work on the cheap tubes from Brazil,Chile, and Vietnam.A tire guy told me he felt it was because those tubes came from countries that still used a higher percentage of real rubber. He said it was just his opinion, but it sounded like a reasonable explanation.

I have my grandfathers; you can still buy the patches on-line. It used to be mounted in the basement at their house, grandma was never too happy as the smell of gun powder floated through the house.

Someone who was really resourceful could use it for "servicing" a troublesome ECM.

It's not too much different from the tool I've used to reprogram "smart" phones. It turns out that "cut-proof" gloves are actually pretty resistant to glass and thin metal:

Some began calling them sling shots when they got in trouble for racial disrespect but sling shot is actually what David used to slay (or knock unconscious) Goliath in 1 Samuel 17. However you are correct about red innertubes, they worked better than black or grey ones. Now that we've dived this deep, I recall frugal but skilled individuals repairing red tubes with pieces from another red tube.
