Oliver 1550 input shaft

Hi all,
New to the forum and new to owning a old Oliver 1550. I ran into a
problem the other day where I could not get the tractor to move in
any gear, or in hydro or direct drive. I traced it down to the read chain
coupler sprocket, it appeared to have town the splines out of the
sprocket. I got it in the shop and started to tear it all apart and found
that it was not only the coupler but the splines on the trans input shaft
were stripped too. I?m having trouble locating a shaft for a 1550. I
seem to be able to easily find one for the 1650 and up but not the
1550. Does anyone know where I can get one?
Thanks
Chris

The serial number might make a difference,I don't know, but I needed a shift rail for mine and had to get one for a late one or a 1555.

Where have you tried? Smitty's in Dalton Ohio would be at the top of my list. Maibach in Creston Ohio would be next. I got that shift rail from Owosso Tractor Parts,Owosso Michigan. I don't know how many parts they have left from that tractor, but it'd be worth a try.

On my 1650 I had the same issue, a friend who has worked on olivers since he was 16 y.o. found me a gear from inside transmission that had the same inside splines took sprocket and gear to a very knowledgable welder and married the two together, that put the gear on fresh splines on the shaft, twenty + years ago and still going.

I had a broken shift rail on mine, too. I could see it had broke before and was welded. When I got it out it was home made. Got one from Smitty. He should have what you need.

As Randy pointed out, call Maibach in Creston OH. They make an extended spline sprocket for just this issue. It s also available on the web, just type "Oliver 1550 1555 1600 1650 1655 Tractor Extended Coupling Sprocket Gear 155533A" in your favorite search engine. As long as you have some length of good spline left towards the rear of the shaft, you are golden with one of these.
