Oliver 1600 overhating

My Oliver 1600 seems to overheat even when I"m not pulling anything. I plan to drain the radiator and refill it with antifreeze, yes I did check and it had plenty of liquid in it. What else should I check for?

While it's drained,you might want to change the thermostat. Also flush out the radiator best you can. Take the bottom hose off,put a hose in the top,seal it up around the garden hose best you can and put some water preasure to it. Then put the hose in the lower hose and flush water back up from the bottom. I'd do this several times. Also flush the dirt from between the radiator fins externally. Compressed air is best,but water pressure will work. Just be careful not to bend the fins and flatten them out or you won't get any air flow.

A friend of mine had a 1600 Oliver, gas. The thermostat was sticking coming home from the auction. Replaced the stat, and all was well.

Father's was doing that too a few years back. Cganged thermostat, no change. Boiled thermostat...opened at the right temp. Flushed everything, no change. Finally run without thermostat, and will still get hot. Keep the rad cap loose and end of problem. Go figure New cap had the same problems. Have run it for years with no therm and a loose cap. Mike. PS..does ANYONE make a machine that burns more fuel?
