Oliver 1755 Wheatland

I have an oliver 1755 with the wide front end that is set back on the frame closer to the rear wheels. I think this is called the Wheatland front end, but I am not sure. Anybody have info on this? What is the purpose of moving the front axle back on the frame? Thank you.

I believe the axle set-back was for a tighter turning radius and I don't know the official terminology but I have always called it an "underslung" front end. The wheatland front end set up is different than the underslung.

I call it under-mount,but have seen it called short wheelbase and utility.I have a 1755 with the front also.

Tighter turning radius and shorter overall tractor were main advantages.

A wheatland would have a nonadjustable front axle.
There are a lot around like yours that they think are a utility but they are just a set-back or underslung wide front.

Here is a pic of a 50 series wheatland.

The problem I have with my 1850 with the under
slung front is the bell crank breaks every now
and then. A new one is quite pricey. They can
be welded, but you have to be good. Overall I
like the tractor. It is nice for mowing hay
and other chores where you need a short turning
radius. Bell crank usually breaks when hired
help abuses the tractor.
