I was looking at buying an oliver 1800 with a gas engine i was wondering how hard it would be to put a Perkins diesel in it out of a new Idea combine? Can anyone help? Thanks.

You need an 1850 diesel tub and the motor out of one for all the parts that you'll need to change over from a 354 that wasn't in an 1850 to begin with.

The cost difference between a gas and a diesel is fairly small, between $1000 and $2000 more?

I suspect that if you don't put any value on your labor or the down time on the tractor you could probably buy the gas tractor, buy a good diesel engine, buy the necessary conversion parts, and resell the remaining parts you could do it for not too much more cost than a good diesel tractor would have cost at the beginning. If your looking for a hobby project, go for it, you probaply won't make any money doing it.
