Oliver 28-44 engine question

I’m currently working on a 1935 Oliver Hart Parr 28-44 and I was wondering what type of magneto it used.

Sorry it took me so long to reply to your post. I was only 90 percent on what mag was on the 2844 so had to look it up. Thought others on here would have been replying but I guess most of the fellows who knew these tractors are gone. I have an instruction book for the Bosch magnetos if you need any info I could take some pics of pertinent page(s)

I was going to post too, but then I think there was a change at some point in the 28-44 series, and I didn't have a book in front of me. The Bosch U4 is correct, but the exact numbers I don't have.

I think I saw this on an 18-27 or a 28-44 tractor a few months ago.

Do you know when they changed to a flange mount v/s base mount? I know the 90's were a flange mount MJB4A but not sure if change happened pre 37? If OP could send a pic of existing set up even if mag is missing we should be able to tell if base or flange mount?

Offhand I don't know, but I think it did happen late in the series, probably around 35-36 prior to the 90, and I could be totally wrong too. I don't know the interchangability and we don't know how original OP's tractor is. The photo would make everything clear.

Thank you for your help. Just for reference I, Mary, created this account, but my 17 yr. old is the one doing all the work on this tractor. I appreciate any and all help you can give him since our Oliver guy is no longer with us. Tom could you please send us the pertinent pages? Here are pictures of the mag. He had just taken it apart prior to me reading the post

Mary-

This site has a lot of information on the Bosch magnetos: https://oldcroak.com/american-bosch-instr-maintainence-u1-u2-u4-u6/

I would not take that mag apart unless he's verified there is no spark from the wires. Even if it has a weaker orange/blue spark (blue is ideal), I wouldn't take it apart.

I think its great that your 17 year old is taking interest in restoring a tractor built in the 30's! If mag is still like the pic, that is really not taken apart. Just the cap off so no big deal. Take a look at the website scootergmc posted link to, If there is still something specific you need info on, let me know and can post pics. Is the 28 44 a family tractor or?

I've got a question. Can anybody tell me what the torque spec is on the head bolts on an Oliver Hart Parr 28-44?

I will look later on tommorow for you, I have a book someplace in the shop just have to find it , but they should not be bolts, they should be studs and nuts? I think a couple different lengths.

I couldnt find a specific torque value for the 28-44 in any of my books. The first pic is all the manual I have for 28-44 says about tightening head bolts, however the second pic is for a 80 which is similiar in a lot of ways and I think head studs are same size so it should work?? Others on here more knowedgeable on the Hart Parrs could confirm??
