Oliver 550 (58) governor issue

Gas engine, seems to want to increase rpms steadily w/o moving throttle. I have one of those pdf files manual, cant find crap on that. Anyone got an idea what to look for, I am sure its. A governor issue. Thanks
 

(This is generic advice and would apply to most governed carbureted engines.)

The FIRST thing I would do is set the length of the governor-carburetor linkage as directed in the shop manual.

If the linkage itself is non-adjustable, the arm on the governor may be.

See what your manual has to say about those procedures.
 
There's a friction disc down on the left side, just below the battery. Make sure that's tight enough. There's a brass washer behind the governor drive gear that wears out and will cause similar problems.
