Were these a common plow? I just saw it tonight on the local C/L but don't recall ever seeing the "pipe" style??

About 35 years ago I saw a 7 bottom Oliver pipe plow at an auction. Was not in bad shape but paint was pretty well off of it so it brought 300 dollars. Anyways, the pipe frame plows were short lived in the scheme of things. Probably made from the very late 1950's until the mid-1960's I would guess.

This person is only asking $450 LOL!! It does have decent paint on it though. We quit moldboard plowing over 20 years ago and that was done with a White 508 5/16 plow, was a very good plow.

That's what the number was,my dad bought a new one in 1958, a 4-14,they could be changed to 16 inch too,i think and could add on,1 or two bottoms also.We went to town to help the dealer assemble it, it never had a number decal with it,LOL.

Oliver started building pipe plows in the late 50's when they came out with the 4440 pull type that was meant to be paired with the Super 99's. The 5540 semi mount came out in 1960 with the 1800A and was built until it was replaced by the double channel frame plows when the 1800C came out. The 4440 was discontinued around the same time.

The 4440 was replaced by the 4441. A guy not to far from me in Indiana picked up a red (Cockshutt) 4441 plow. It was replaced by the 450 if I remember correctly. How much of the pieces of a 4440 /4441 will interchange with a 5440. The 4441 plow was available with an on-land hitch.
