Oliver 77 clutch

I have a 77 that i've been buildin for a pullin tractor and the stock clutch just isnt holding up any more the last one only lasted only 4 hooks before it started slippin. Any advice or suggestions on another route to go that'll hold up to some extra ponies?? any help is appreciated thanks

What type of disc are you using? If it's just a standard organic lined disc, perhaps you need to try a ceramic "puck" type disc. Kip

Get a 88 or 880 flywheel and put a 11" industrial 88 880 button clutch in it. Will hold up to 125hp Ive been told.

send your pressure plate to Carolina Brake and Clutch in Hickory, NC. tell them you pull and want a strong clutch. You will get what you want.

have you done anything to your pressure plate. i had a pressure plate done and button clutch for my 460 and it would slip it also. come to find out the springs in the p plate wasnt strong enough to hold it. got them changed and went with a 6 button clutch and it hold good now. call allied precision. go to goggle and google them. i paid 250 for the pressure plate and dics. they build single, double, and triple disc setup and do pulling trucks also. they seem to know what they doing.

If you can use a 88 flywheel, call Brad at Maibach Tractor in Creston Ohio and tell him what you are looking for. They have a setup with a button clutch and a strong pressure plate on the shelf that they sell to pullers. Hope it helps.

A 11 in clutch from a 70ies Chevy 4X4 with a 400 engine will fit on a 77 flywheel. just drill and tap it. It's close but will work, and is cheap. My clutch was slipping and I have a Rouche(spelling)button clutch in it. Took my flywheel, pressure plate, and button disc to a REAL speed shop. He said it doesn't take much spring pressure if your parts are flat! When he got done they looked like mirrors. He said it should slip a little taking off then heating up and locking. Everything is stock except for 5 button disc. Oh I set my fingers at different heights, so it doesn't grab taking off. Vic

oliverlover, another choice would be a kevlar faced clutch, which is what i use,the advantage is a very easy clutch petal and never slips and doesn't wear out your flywheel. and it's been in the tractor for 15 years.i first had it behind a 129hp 310 before i put the 77 engine back in. chuck

i second chucks option. i have a heavy duty kevlar type lined clutch. i had them put heavyier springs in the pressure plate. it has been in mine for about 15 years also. when i put the motor back in about 4 years ago you could still read the "flyweel side" lettering on the disk. i had it up to 125 hp on the dyno before the pto clutch let go.
