Oliver 77 drawbar

I'm gonna be pulling my 51 oliver 77 this year, but before I do that I have to figure out my hitch ordeal, the bracket that holds the main drawbar on is cracked, so i was wondering, is there a way u could completely get rid of the whole hitch set up and replace it with a custom one? If there is, can someone give me some ideas?

What class are you planning to pull in? In our area of Central Wis. antique tractors are usually classed as stock or virgin, Semi-stock and Open. Semi-stock and Open are allowed to make hitch changes. Virgin just has hitch height and distance behind rear axle rules. Steve.

Are You saying that Your Rear Main Frame Casting is Broke, or just the Brackets that Bolt it up to the Casting?

I'm pulling stock at i believe about 4500 lbs

I dont have any pictures at the moment, but since the draw bar is cast iron it may be difficult to weld

Spoke with my brother on welding cast iron. Biggest thing is heating the piece and keeping so-so warm. Grind the crack more open so to deep weld, heat again if necessary and weld fill whatever of the crack.

Canton, Illinois - Javis welding. I stopped in to get a piece I had straightened and there was this exhaust manifold all welded up. How it got broke and chunk missing as big as my index finger I don't know.
I asked about it. Javis didn't why there was a chunk missing, but told of welding exhaust manifolds right on the tractor or whatever. Let the tractor run until the manifold is hot, shut off and start welding. He says; "Piece of cake."

You say it is cast iron where you circled on the drawbar support? That support looks like fabricated steel in the picture to me. If it is cast, I think it is more likely a cast steel, which can generally be welded.

Everything in that picture is welded steel parts. It is not unusual for them to crack there. If you are a capable welder go ahead and weld the cracks if not take it to a repair shop and have it welded.

As others have Stated, the Entire Hitch is Formed/Fabricated Steel. Grind Out the Entire Original Weld with a bit of a "V" Groove for added measure and Weld away. You need not concern Yourself with Preheating either.
