Found a oliver 88 and i would like your oppinion if im getting ripped or not.

It has been sitting but the sheet metal is all solid, (no grill) engine is froze (no head) also is missing alot of other smalls. Carb, starter, air cleaner, genny etc all gone.
has good fenders with good looking lights and a swinging drawbar.

What would you pay for this unit? I dont wanna be completely out if i get it and cant even part it out.

Thanks for everyones help, yall are always a big help here

At the current bid ($225), getting close to it's scrap value?

Outside with no head on it (and needing one, to be purchased later)?

Sat for how long? (looks like a while - a long time).

Tinwork only 'seems' to be solid?

Presumably with no head, there are no manifolds, carb, etc? (guessing it is gas, not diesel)

With already one bidder who changed their mind about paying the auction price?

Maybe the owner found something more wrong with the engine than the head (or even sold the head as 'good')? Might even have a busted transmission for all anyone knows?

Might even have an unwanted hole in the block - who knows?

A case of buyer beware, I think.

Worth a go, as long as scrap value not exceeded by a lot and is fairly local, I suppose....

After picking up the tractor 2 two weeks ago, we got the tractor dismantled over this past weekend. It is a diesel, has a belt pulled and mechanical lift (with the PTO shaft support bearing) and has nice rear wheels despite having fluid in the tires. The tinwork is pretty straight and will only require minor bodywork to smooth out a couple dents and dings, but the dash is a total loss; it's completely rusted out at the bottom. It has band brakes, and the serial tag ends with an f, which denotes the 10/47 ring/pinion (it's true, I counted them), and the drawbar was straight, not worn or welded back together. The downside was the block webbing is cracked between the cylinders, but we were able to tear the engine apart. We got the pistons unstuck but not out of the sleeves (we actually got #4 out).
The best surprise was the brass throttle! How much is that worth?
Does that change anyone's opinion on the value of the tractor?
Anyone interested in buying a mechanical lift or belt pulley?
