Oliver OC-3's Final Drive

I have a question regarding the Oliver OC-3’s final drive, for I admit that I must have my head screwed on wrong because things are not making any sense. Here is an excerpt from the OC-3’s manual:

My problem is, I can’t find the drain plug on the final drive:

Off the top of my head (my OC3 is 25 miles away) the drain plug is on the inside of the final drive casting, at the bottom of course. You have to crawl underneath to remove it.

I did crawl to the inside, but all I saw were flathead screws in about the same position as the mounting bolts on the outside, so I dismissed them as drain plugs. ...so that was a bad assumption. I'll get a large screwdriver and crawl back under there and give them a try. Thanks for your reply, Mike!

Here you go, this is my early OC46 but it should be the same. They are plugs with female square drive, just use a socket extension bar. The drain is accessible through the square opening, the level plug through the round hole. The fill is as you noted on the outside. Remove the drain and level plugs to drain the old oil, replace the drain plug. I found it easiest to measure out the required amount of oil into a container then pour that in. Give it a minute to get down to the bottom. Then add a little more oil until it overflows out of the level hole. This saves several trips under the machine watching for the oil to come out the level hole. If you put in the proper amount first then top off as needed it's easier.

Thank you, Mike, for your good advice. I just pulled the drain plugs on both sides and I am letting them drain overnight. There was a small amount of water - about a tablespoon from both of them, so I'm glad I'm doing this for them. After the fill, I think I will run the crawler for about a week and do another flush.
