That is very interesting. I thought a Super 99 was DD 3-71 only. But research shows it could have had both gas and diesel Oliver/Waukesha 6 cylinder engines. Square engines too!- 4x4, just like the AC WC/WD

When I was growing up and working on my Uncle's farm in western Mn, he had a 6cylinder Oliver Super 99. It didn't have the power of the 3-71, but didn't have the noise either. It was a good tractor for that vintage, I ran it enough to like it. It didn't have power steering, but it steered real easy.

So just the power unit then. I had visions of some of the first self propelled potato harvesters around here in the 60s. They'd take the wheels off Oliver 1800s, 4020 Deeres, 806 Farmalls, put big roller chain sprockets on the axles and power the harvesters with the whole tractor.

Yep, and I believe that Waukesha 302 was sleeveless as well. Sucks if you have one that's stuck, like us.

The Waukesha Super 99’s didn’t even make a full year of production before they switched to Detroits. The gas engine option was dropped at that point to.

It's a Waukesha built engine with Ollie tin on it.

Yes and no. The 302 from the super 99’s was indeed a 100% Waukesha engine. The rest of the Waukesha’s Oliver used they had a heavy hand in the design and development of.

A tater farmer next to the rented land i farmed had one like that , he used a John Deere 4230 . when it was not running the harvester it was a haying tractor . He would have the one local guy with a big wrecker come down to set it up on the harvester in late Aug. then come back in Nov and lift it off .. My uncle had one pull type and one self propelled . Now around here no body is raising spuds.

I remember seeing a Gehl self propelled flywheel cut chopper ,but don't remember the engine. It had a seat and controlls for the operator ,unlike the picture and probably power steering . Not many self propelled's had front steering .
