This is obviously an ex military tractor but was wondering what model of ag tractor it fits closest to ?

Super 77. The Super 77 would be a 3-1/2 inch bore engine. 185 GM was also used by the Military in other places as when I was at Ft Belvoir in1963 they had used them in teaching mechanics classes.

It is a 1956 and it has the regular 6 forward, 2 speed reverse transmission. It still takes a Military standard oil filter too.

It has a strange distributor, in that I guess its supposed to be waterproof.

That looks like a Military distributor.
